Nicholas the Poodle is an underground author who writes stories and poems as he expands his career as a professor of English. His work integrates knowledge and currents of thought the author explores in his reading routine. He aims to design work that mediates the lines between spiritual liberation and psychological delusion. This involves organizing information and understanding histories that one is only now able to learn because of the Information Age.
In 2015, he graduated without distinction from the University of Edinburgh where he obtained his MSc in Intellectual History.
In 2017, Nicholas published his debut novella Linda and the Real World then drove around the United States to promote and share his work. Find images from that leg of the journey here.
In 2019, he published the experimental works Framework and Jack’s Print, the results of considering the weight of philosophy in sunny San Diego. Later that year, Nicholas traveled to Kaifeng, China to teach ESL at Henan University. While working in Kaifeng, Nicholas was inspired by nature, the kindness and quietude of Chinese, witnessing the lasting effects of age-old sages.
When he traveled home to visit family in January 2020, the pandemic reached from China to the United States. After wandering in Cambridge and Boston, Nicholas moved back to his hometown of Worcester. He started working as an adjunct professor at his alma mater Worcester State Univesity. The novel he started in China would become, Larify’s Dismissal: A Novel from the Hubbub, a science fiction saga. The publication of the novel in 2022 was followed by a flowering of the poet’s understanding of what it means to live as an artist from day to day. In its first year of publication, Nicholas put over 800 copies of Larify… on the ground himself.

Larify is the personification of philosophy in general.

This year, Nicholas the Poodle embarks on another literary effort. This one meant to spread his work on the internet. 365 articles he wrote in the year 2023 will be serially published in 12 books, one book each month, culminating into one opus for bedside reading called 2023. These articles are highly readable and good for those who consider their attention span too low since each day the genre and preoccupation of the narrator is not quite the same as the day before.
Video readings performed in the apartment where he wrote these articles will be published each week on Youtube, a video each week.
T-shirts are now available in S,L, and XL.
