2023

In 2023, Nicholas the Poodle wrote an article each day. This creative process became a way for him to unpack all he had learned while traveling. Returning to his hometown, Worcester, Massachusetts, again, as an adult, the poet needed to establish new meaning with the place that birthed and raised him. So he created a storybook composed of daily articles, titled 2023, after the year. From the standpoint of an avid reader, this bildungsroman is not just the age-old tale of a character returning home after learning something new, but a written recording of the organic process of retaking one’s life back from the world.

The 365 articles of 2023 are being serially published in twelve books; each month is special. As a whole project, 2023 will amount to one giant bedside tome. Articles in 2023 aim to orient the young adult in times of excess information, to teach young people who become frightened that taking small actions every day in their local area will allow them to continue their dreams and feel fulfilled; these articles are for parents to leaf through and decide what kind of lesson they want to teach to their child that night. There are stories, reflections, fragments, and essays.
